Ski Areas Italy

Italy offers winter sports lovers fascinating ski areas, and in combination with the “Dolce Vita” gives it a very special allure. The largest connection of lift systems, the Dolomiti Superski, provides skiers and snowboarders with 1,200 kilometres of piste for riding pleasure. Numerous cosy lodges are ready to serve visitors a nice cappuccino, with which you can relax and enjoy the amazing Italian mountain scenery. Italy has been host the winter Olympics twice (Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956, Turin in 2006). Bormio, scene of the Alpine ski world cup in 1985 and 2005, is also internationally recognised. Further popular ski areas are Livigno with its duty-free shopping possibilities and the Sella Ronda, an alpenstock in the shape of a plateau in the Dolomites, is also a legendary trip for all ski fans.

Après ski Italy

In Italy the exciting days fade away into great nightlife. In all the larger ski areas you can find après ski locations such as pubs, bars and discos. There are many cosy ski huts in the ski areas themselves and at the valley stations. In addition there is first-class Italian cuisine, which offers particular delicacies for every taste. Bruschetta, pasta, pizza, risotto, zabaglione (a sweet cream made of eggs, sugar and wine) and panna cotta are just a few examples. Evening meal is the main meal of the day and comprises of a starter/antipasti, two main dishes and a dessert.

There is a varied choice of off-piste sporting activities available. Whether it be a leisurely winter or snowshoe hike in the great outdoors, relaxing in a wellness oasis or hang-gliding, paragliding or exciting ice-climbing adventures, there is sure to be something for everyone!

Excursions Italy

Many people associate Italy with "dolce vita" - the sweet life is usually the first thing that comes to mind. Great wine and delicious food, as well as art and culture, boulevards through wonderful historic towns, lakes, castles, and gorgeous churches shape the image of the country. These associations are not random, as they are the factors that make a holiday in Italy unique.

The Italian towns with their Mediterranean flair attract a great variety of tourists. Milan, for example, is the capital of fashion and scores with its landmark, the Gothic cathedral. Bolzano, the gateway to the Dolomites, has many interesting museums on offer - the archaeological museum, for example, exhibits "Ötzi the Iceman". Bergamo is especially appreciated for its car-free historic centre, the Città Alta, located high up on a hill. Trento, on the other hand, is very well-known for its amazing architecture with frescos and colourful façades. The most famous sight is the Buonconsiglio Castle. In Verona, the home of the renowned opera festivals, a culture fan's heart will beat faster.

Furthermore, the numerous imposing buildings are always worth a visit. Especially impressing is the Bard Fortress. The identically-named village in the Aosta Valley has been used as a site of defence work to protect the border since the 6th century. Nowadays, the fortress houses the Alpine museum. Just as worth seeing are the Issogne Castle and the Fénis Castle in the Aosta Valley or the Arco Castle and the Scaliger Castle in Malcesine at Lake Garda. Especially interesting for children is the collection of knight's armour at the Chur Castle in the Vinschgau.

There are also many beautiful lakes in Italy. The most well-known is no doubt Lake Garda with its surrounding holiday resorts, such as the glamorous health resort Riva del Garda or Sirmione. Lake Como has even been visited by George Clooney. In this region, the metropolis Como or Bellagio - the "pearl of Lake Como" - with its grand villas, await. Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano complete the list.

Two other holiday themes that are of great importance in Italy are spa and automobile. Travellers looking to relax, will find their mecca in Merano, the centre of the South Tyrolean spa scene, or in the Acquarena in Brixen, a 12,000 m² big water, fitness, and spa world. Those who like it a little faster, can visit Turin or Monza. In Turin, the headquarters of the company Fiat, you will find the Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile, and in Monza you can visit the the famous "Autodromo Nazionale di Monza" circuit.
