Ski area 3 Zinnen Dolomiten
In San Candido itself there are 13 km of piste available in the Haunold ski area. The ski area Helm/Stiergarte/Rotwand/Kreuzbergpass, easily reached from Sesto and Vierschach, offers the largest selection of pistes with approx. 86 km. Some particularly challenging pistes, such as the "Holzriese 2" run, which is one of Italy's steepest pistes, lead by below the cliffs of the Rotwandspitze. This run has a 71% decline and spans 700 m with an altitude difference of 300 m. Those who dare to take on the entire valley can have a go on the "Giro Delle Cime" (Sesto Dolomite Round). This day trip takes you across five mountains and around 30 km of piste, crossing 9,700 altitude meters.
Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy
To ensure safety on the ski slopes in Italy, stricter safety regulations have been in force since 2022. In order to use the ski areas, everyone must have liability insurance that covers damage to third parties. It will also be possible to take out this insurance on site for individual days. Drunken skiing is prohibited and punishable by heavy fines, with a maximum of 0.5 mg of alcohol per litre of blood. The ski area 3 Zinnen Dolomiten is one of those night ski areas where you can go skiing by night time. In San Candido, the piste at Haunold is opened for night skiing every Tuesday and Friday. For something quieter there are winter hiking trails where you can peacefully enjoy the wonderful view of the Dolomites. Another option is snow shoe hiking, which you can also take part in as a guided tour. A more comfortable alternative is a horse-drawn sleigh ride.
Snowpark: Kids Skicross Park San Candido
Freestylers get their money's worth at the Kids Skicross Park in the Haunold ski area. Now even amateurs can try their hand on the legendary ski cross world cup slope. It features 6 steep turns, 12 waves and 4 kickers.
The family programme has recently been rounded off with two new Family Funslopes with banked turns, waves, snow tunnels, bridges and snails. These are located on the "Rotwand" and "Helm" ski mountains.
