The small district of Wurzbach is located at approx. 525 m altitude in the soft hills of the Thuringian Forest. The village lies on the border of the Franken Forest, hence is also know as "the gateway to the Franken Forest". Classic-style slate-covered buildings, made from the slate as mined from the Thuringian mountains, characterise the appearance of the resort. They form the largest part of the traditional atmosphere and charm of this idyllic spot.

The Thuringian Forest, the "green heart of Germany", transforms into a beautiful white wonderland in winter, which is also well suited for winter sports and relaxation, with the refreshing, crystal clear air. Wurzbach offers an interesting mix of skiing and snowboarding, cross-country, tobogganing, hiking and a lot of cultural offers. The foundry Heinrichshütte, which also displays one of the largest steam engines in entire Europe, is known as one of best place to experience industry culture development. The colourfully designed transformer tower on the market square is a unique landmark and always cause for inquisitive questions.

Thuringian Forest
