Ski holidays Borovets - traditional skiing fun!

Borovets

Located on an altitude of 1,337 m, Borovets is known to be the biggest high altitude health resort and the most traditional winter sports area in Bulgaria. The ski area is situated ideally, and with its highest point at 2,550 m it caters for guaranteed snow and wonderful slopes until the end of April. The ski area is located on Musala mountain, the highest mountain of the Balkans. Apart from skiing, Borovets has a lot else to offer, and countless cosy bars and inns invite you to stay. You will also find many street vendors offering little souvenirs or cultural specialities. The magnificent mountain backdrop is a magnet to both tourists and locals who enjoy holidays or weekends in the winter sports area. Sofia, Bulgaria's capital, is located approx. 72 km away and is perfect for an interesting day trip.

Rila Mountains

The beautiful capital of Bulgaria is located in a valley basin, surrounded by the Balkan Mountains in the north and the Vitosa Mountains with its highest mountain, the Cerni Vruch ("Black Peak", 2,290 m) in the south. The Rila and Pirin Mountains are located south of the Vitosa Mountains, the Rhodope Mountains can be found in the south-east. The Rila Mountains are the highest in Bulgaria, and they have no reason to hide behind the big ones in the rest of Europe. The landscape is characterised by beautiful granite rocks, lakes from the glacial period, and deep ravines. Also very characteristic are the many rivers which have their origin in the Rila Mountains and then wind through Bulgaria until they flow into the Black Sea or the Aegean. There's a reason the Thracians used to call the area "Roula" - an area rich in water.
