Ski holidays St. Walburg – a wintery dream in the pristine Ultental Valley!

St. Walburg

The picturesque village of St. Walburg lies at 1,190 metres above sea level in the hilly landscape of the Ultental Valley. This natural idyll in the Merano region is characterised by sunny Alpine pastures, dense forests and a majestic mountain backdrop. The village of St. Walburg belongs to the municipality of Ulten and is named after the patron saint of the parish church, Walburga. The magnificent 14th century church stands on a hill not far from the village centre. The houses of the approximately 2,200 inhabitants nestle against the wooded slopes, with the Ulten mountains towering behind them. Modern buildings and old farms alternate in the village centre and traditional craft businesses produce delicious cheese and the famous sweet Ultner Bauernkrapfen.

Dominik Paris, possibly Italy's most outstanding ski racer of the last 15 years, is a proud resident of the picturesque Ulten Valley, more precisely from the charming village of St. Walburg. His home mountain, the Schwemmalm, not only serves as a scenic backdrop, but also as his favourite training location. With impressive successes such as the title of Super-G World Champion in 2019, overall victory in the Super-G and an impressive 22 World Cup victories, including four triumphs on the famous Streif in Kitzbühel, he has taken the skiing world by storm.

Just behind the village of St. Walburg lies the Zoggler reservoir. On the opposite side of the lake is the ski area on the Schwemmalm. Around 25 sunny kilometres of pistes await pleasure skiers here. Skiing or ski touring, winter hiking, tobogganing, horse riding and cross-country skiing are guaranteed to delight young and old alike in this beautiful natural setting.

Region Merano

The holiday region Merano is an interconnection of 5 very diverse ski area and extends from the western rim, via the southern border, right up to the eastern rim of the nature reserve Texel. The Texel mountain chain is located southern of the border to Tyrol and offers impressive views of the 3,000 m mountains, whereby the Roteck with 3,337 m is the highest of them all. May it be family-friendly, romantic or active all year round with ski tours on the 3,700 m high Schalstal Glacier - Merano could not offer more diversity that it already has. Winter sports fans will find everything they are looking for here. Besides a large number of pistes there are also great freeride opportunities, and the region also offers many more activities, e.g. tobogganing, cross-country skiing, ice-climbing and winter rafting - to only name but a few.
