Night skiing Willingen

Night skiing is not only available in the Alps. Fans of night-time skiing will also find a true El Dorado in the Central German Uplands: Night-owls can look forward to one of Germany's largest night skiing areas in the Willingen ski area. Almost 6 km of piste are illuminated after nightfall three times per week. The longest piste is approx. 1.5 km long, and there is a total of 6 lifts available for night skiing. Every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday the lift operating times are extended from 18:30 to 21:45 for nocturnal skiing fans. Flood-lit tobogganing is also an option, and you can race down the pistes on the "Dorfwiese" next to the Ettelsberg gondola until late in the evening.

Après ski Willingen

On the subject of après ski in Willingen, all you you have to do is mention ''Siggi's Hütte'' - probably the best-known ski hut in Sauerland, with the entertaining proprietor Siggi! Officially known as ''Ettelsberghütte,'' you'll find yourself on 838m-high Ettelsberg, near the summit station of the gondola, right at a proper ski hut, a great place to stop for skiers and non-skiers alike. The other ski-huts and the new ''Seilbar'' at the valley station are also certainly worth a visit!

For something a little quieter by comparison, try one of the many restaurants, in which you can cosily let the day fade away. Maybe you'll treat yourselves to a romantic horse-drawn sleigh-ride through the snowy, hilly scenery--or maybe a snowshoe hike? Yet another opportunity to round out the day may be the numerous sports opportunities, for example swimming, go-kart rides, or rock climbing. With good visibility, the Hochheidenturm tower on the Ettelsberg is a must. At 875 m, it's the highest lookout point in north-west Germany, and offers an impressive view of the Sauerland!

Finally, the Mühlenkopfschanze ski-jump, which is the largest in the world - and also open for visitors - should not be missed. Willingen also offers interesting museums: the interactive museum Milchmuh for example, of the Curioseum, a collection of curiosities with e.g. model ships, micro cars, old tractors, old winter sports equipment and vintage cars.
