The spa and winter sports resort Lohberg is located in the nature park Oberer Bayerischer Wald, at the foot of the Osser and Arber mountains. With approx. 2,000 inhabitants the resort is the most eastern village in the Upper Pfalz. Due its diverse offer of trails, the area is known to be a true cross-country skiing paradise. The Bavarian Forest is central Europe's largest forest with 6,000 km² of wooded area. In 1970 the national park Bavarian Forest was created which, together with the Bohemian Forest, forms the largest coherent forestal nature reserve in central Europe with a total span of 900 km².
