The Kniebis, just above Freudenstadt, is know as the most popular cross-country area in the Black Forest, with its over 70 km of trails. 14 km of prepared trails for classic skiing, varying in length from 1.3 to 13,7 km are ideal for both beginners and advanced skiers. A great track with a wonderful view of the town, is the "Kienberg" trail, a 6 km long round-track, all around the resort. Even a night-trail is available in Kniebis. This round-track covers 2.5 km and is open until 22:00 under floodlights.
Thanks to the "Skiferwanderweg Nordschwarzwald" (an extended skiing and hiking trail), the track network extends over approx. 105 km of tracks all around Freudenstadt and the surrounding smaller districts. The trails run by Freudenstadt itself and over the Kniebis, hence forming a massive network along the "Schwarzwaldhochstraße".
