The renowned and state approved health resort Bischofsmais with its approx. 3,200 inhabitants is found in the lower Bavarian region of Regen in the middle of the natural park of the Bavarian Forest. The town was formerly dominated by agriculture. Bavarian Forest

The Bavarian Forest is central Europe's largest forest with 6,000 km² of wooded area. In 1970 the national park Bavarian Forest was created which, together with the Bohemian Forest, forms the largest coherent forestal nature reserve in central Europe with a total span of 900 km².
