Ski area Katschberg-Aineck
In St. Margarethen itself you reach the ski area Katschberg-Aineck via the local mountain Aineck, which offers 70 km of varied pistes and 16 lift facilities. Here you can enjoy the A1 downhill run from Aineck to St. Margarethen, which is praised as "the most beautiful valley run in the Alps" with a difference in altitude of 1,120 m and a length of about 6 km. The area is suitable for families with children as well as for advanced skiers. This is ensured by 10 km of blue pistes, 50 km of red pistes and 10 km of black pistes. The most difficult slope "Direttissima" is 3 km long and very steep at the start. It is considered one of the most difficult slopes in the Alps. As 100% of the pistes can be covered in artificial snow, there is guaranteed snow throughout the ski area at the appropriate temperatures.
The ski area Großeck/Speiereck with approx. 50 km of skiing pleasure also offers a wide range of long and varied runs. Here the 4.5 km long valley descent from Speiereck to St. Michael, with a difference in altitude of 1,300 m, is an absolute highlight. Children explore the ski area on the Hexenwald Children's Adventure Ski Trail or let off steam in the Smarty Kinderland with igloo, witch house, figures and tipi tent.
The Fanningberg is also suitable for families. Except for one small exception at Zirbenjet, the slopes are wonderfully wide and flat, making them ideal for beginners and children. The little ones can be looked after in the FANNI Children's Park on request, while the older ones can explore the excellent Carving slope.
Even in the evening, winter sports enthusiasts have the opportunity to jet down the illuminated practice lift.
When upgrading to the "Skipass Lungo" lift pass, you can enjoy a total of 250 km of piste in 4 different ski areas: Obertauern, Katschberg, Grosseck-Speiereck and Fanningberg. Pros and leisure skiers alike will certainly get their money's worth on these diverse pistes!
Night skiing St. Margarethen
For all lovers of night skiing there is good news in St. Margarethen in the Lungau, because the night skiing offer in the Salzburg Lungau is wide! Going down the slopes in a starry night sky and finally sipping a hot drink at the hut - no problem here. There are two places, both about 30 to 40 minutes by car from St. Margarethen, where night owls get their money's worth in the Lungau region: both Katschberg-Aineck and Grosseck-Speiereck have floodlit slopes. The days and opening hours vary depending on the date and location.Après ski St. Margarethen
Snowbiking in St. Michael and Obertauern or tobogganing on one of the natural toboggan runs around St. Margarethen is also fun for young and old, some of which can also be used at night under floodlight.
Snowpark: St. Margarethen St. Margarethen
In the Katschberg-Aineck ski area at the double chairlift there is a small snowpark where beginners as well as experts can prove themselves. There are various obstacles such as kickers and even a small halfpipe. Snowboarders in particular will be pleased that there are only a few pull paths.
