Ski area Hochkönig

The lift pass "Ski amadé" gives you access to a jaw-dropping 760 km of piste and 270 lifts (see ski region). In other words, one single lift pass allows you to use the piste in the regions "Salzburger Sportwelt", "Schladming-Dachstein", "Gastein", "Hochkönig" and "Großarltal". You will definitely get your money’s worth here!

The local ski area of Maria Alm, "Hochkönig" (2,941 m), is particularly well-known for its guarantee of snow. And if the snow does not fall as expected then snow machines, snow cannons, piste equipments and snow-making pond will make sure you have undisturbed skiing fun. 120 km of well-prepared pistes, 8 km of ski routes and 34 modern lifts are available at the child-friendly ski area. The hardest piste is the 1 km long Hochmaist descent. However, there are more challenging slopes at Aberg-Langeck (1,900 m), but beginners get to join in the fun here, too. The snow park at Aberg with tables, slides and jumps is perfect for freestyle fans. Furthermore, the place offers some good freeriding opportunities. There is a ski bus that runs between the individual areas and which is free to all lift pass bearers.

With the Königstour, the Hochkönig ski region also offers a wonderful ski circuit - one of the longest in the Alps. The route of 35 continuous kilometres of piste can be explored in just one day and is therefore ideal for day trips with the whole family. The Königstour has connected the ski areas of Mühlbach, Dienten and Maria Alm since 2012 and was awarded the title of best ski circuit in 2014. Maria Alm is also directly connected to the main ski area at Aberg, so there is a ski-in/ski-out connection to the Königstour.

Would you like to share all the impressions you gathered during the ski day with your friends and family? No problem! There are several Wi-Fi hotspots spread throughout the Hochkönig ski area. They offer you uncomplicated and free internet access at fun parks, lift stations and huts. The Kings Cab is also the first Austrian cable car to be equipped with a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Night skiing Maria Alm

Night skiing is offered several times a week in Maria Alm on the Simmerl lift. Another special highlight in the evening is the snow show in the "Magic Area", which takes place from the end of December until mid-March every Tuesday from 21:00. Here you can marvel at ski formation rides, freestyle and stunt performances as well as torchlight runs and fireworks. Admission is free.

Après ski Maria Alm

The umbrella bars at the Aberg valley station invite you to see out the day day on the piste in a sociable fashion. In neighbouring Dienten, good après ski can be found in e.g. the „Bründlstadl“. Those who want to keep the party going can head to “Dorfstadl” or in the “Riverside” bar in Maria Alm.

Those wanting to have a quieter time can pay a visit to one of the traditional restaurants, where your taste buds will be tantalised with local delicacies, such as Wiener Tafelspitz, Lammbratl (lamb roast) with dumplings or cheese fondue.

Besides skiing or snowboarding, you can still be active with a variety of ski tours and 85 km of winter hiking trails. Snow-shoe hiking is also a great alternative, as well as toboggan parties. In Maria Alm alone there are two illuminated toboggan runs that you can make use of. Water babies can let loose in the indoor pool.

Snowpark: Kings Park Snowpark Maria Alm

The ski area Hochkönig comprises 3 different great snow parks! The most coveted of them is probably the "Kings Park". It is 1.8 km long and begins directly at the mountain station of the 8-person lift "Kings Cab". The set-up is impressive: boxes, butter boxes, jibs, kickers, rails and tubes, as well as Special Obstacles don't leave anything to be desired, no matter whether you are a beginner or pro. After a challenging ride, you can relax with free Wi-Fi in the "Kings Cab" gondola while it brings you to the next line.

Those who would like to take advantage of the whole range of freestyle offers, there are two further parks. The "Snowpark Natrun" at the Simmerl lift is characterized by easy obstacles and is geared more towards beginners or children. The "Livingroom Snowpark" in Mühlbach, located at an altitude of 1,500 m at the foot of the Mandlwände mountain, is freshly shaped every day and offers a challenging ride for everyone with its advanced and beginner lines. Furthermore, 2 highlights are awaiting freestylers. The park has mirrors and live cams, as well as a great sound system. That way you can watch yourself do tricks and analyse them on-line afterwards, all while listening to some great tunes. Additionally, boarders and freeskiers have the opportunity to be professionally coached in freestyling twice weekly for a small fee.

There is also a fun slope on the Aberg. The absolute highlight of the 850 metre long run with tunnels, wave curves, small jumps and mascots is the giant snow snail with a diameter of 30 m.

The whole Ski amadé area comprises 14 snow parks and is therefore an absolute freestyle El Dorado!
