Under the JUFA brand (German acronym for “Young Holiday Idea for All”), there are now over 50 family hotels, resorts and guesthouses with child-friendly facilities in four European countries, many of which are located in popular Alpine regions in Austria. SnowTrex presents seven of the hotels in more detail, where your next ski holiday can be spent as a family or group:
What are JUFA hotels?
The JUFA hotels, resorts & guesthouses are specialised in group and family tourism. The family hotels with leisure facilities designed specifically for children are located in select holiday resorts in Germany and Austria (for summer tourism, also in Hungary and Liechtenstein), whose infrastructure and ski areas are known for their special family-friendliness. JUFA is especially present in the Alpine regions of Styria and the Salzburger Land.
JUFA Montafon in Bartholomäberg
At the JUFA Hotel Montafon in Bartholomäberg the motto is: “Miar gots körig” (Austrian: “I’m doing fine”). As such, the focus is on the movement and mobility of children. This is why the hotel has 47 rooms as well as an indoor children’s adventure world on several floors with the “Miar gots körig” obstacle course, a large climbing area and small sports hall. While the children are engaged in a variety of sports, parents can enjoy the in-house spa facilities with sauna and steam bath. Thanks to the proximity to Schruns, families have access to the Montafon Brandnertal ski region virtually under their noses, where a total of 140 km of downhill runs with many blue pistes await them. The ski bus stops directly in front of the JUFA hotel and takes guests of all ages comfortably to the nearest lift. Tobogganing on natural runs is certainly not neglected, sometimes even illuminated in the evening.
JUFA Wipptal in Steinach am Brenner
The JUFA Hotel Wipptal is located on the quiet outskirts of Steinach am Brenner and, with around 80 rooms, is one of the larger JUFA hotels. The entry point to the Bergeralm ski area is only a few metres away from the hotel. The popular Stubai Glacier, with 64 km of downhill runs and the BIG Family ski area, is also not far away. There, you’ll find something for every skiing level. The accommodation itself is also more than just a place to sleep: there’s a boulder room and a climbing wall, a sports hall, a playroom and a toddler’s playroom. Parents who want to do something on their own can relax in the spa area. Furthermore, an excursion to the metropolis of Innsbruck, which is only about 30 km north of Steinach, is also possible from the accommodation.
JUFA Mariazell-Sigmundsberg
The JUFA Hotel Mariazell-Sigmundsberg has 44 welcoming rooms as well as an indoor and outdoor playground, a bowling alley, table tennis and billiard tables. The hotel’s own spa area with sauna, indoor swimming pool, steam bath and relaxation area ensures relaxing hours after a long day of skiing. The Schiland Voralpen ski area is about 4 km away and is particularly family-friendly with 42.5 km of pistes of varying degrees of difficulty as well as a children’s ski area. The toboggan run right next to the hotel provides additional action – lots of fun and excitement guaranteed!
JUFA Almtal in Grünau
The tranquil Grünau im Almtal is located in the Salzkammergut, one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Alps. With the free ski bus, which stops directly in front of the JUFA Hotel Almtal, skiers and snowboarders can reach the varied Kasberg ski area. Guests will not be bored in the hotel either – a children’s playroom with a boulder wall, table tennis and an outdoor children’s playground is especially appealing for the little ones. For the grown-ups, there is a sauna, herbal laconium and relaxation area available. By the way: cross-country skiing in Grünau im Almtal is still considered an insider tip! Cross-country skiers can enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and let the beauty of the mountains work their magic on 5 km of groomed trails.
JUFA Altenmarkt
In the heart of the Salzburger Sportwelt and in Ski amadé lies the family-friendly Altenmarkt. Here, you will find the modern JUFA Hotel Altenmarkt, which has 48 rooms and includes a sports hall, a fun court, table tennis and air hockey facilities. The sauna area and the relaxation area provide recuperation after a long day of skiing. The ski bus stop is located directly at the house and provides you with a smooth way to the Salzburger Sportwelt ski area. There, winter sports fans can ski an unbelievable 760 kilometres of pistes with the “Ski amadé” lift pass. For an extra helping of fun and relaxation for the whole family, we also recommend the Erlebnistherme Amadé, which is only about 400 m from the hotel.
JUFA Eisenerz
The JUFA Hotel in Eisenerz, which with 31 rooms is one of the smaller hotels, offers a particularly beautiful view of the Erzberg. A further bonus is its direct location at the entrance to the cross-country ski trail and to the ski touring routes. However, the hotel itself also offers the opportunity to be active: the children’s play area with climbing wall and boulder room offers enough space to let off steam. Guests like to spend cosy evenings in the Almstüberl, Rauchkuchl with open fireplace or the spa area with sauna, relaxation room and fitness room. An exciting alternative to skiing is ice skating on the legendary Leopoldsteiner See surrounded by fantastic winter scenery.
JUFA Lungau in St. Michael im Lungau
This accommodation with 55 rooms is located in the Hohe Tauern National Park, in beautiful Salzburger Land. Here, excursion destinations and family-friendly ski areas are at your fingertips. Children will find Mauterndorf Castle and the fascinating giant ice world of Werfen exciting. The entrance to the Großeck-Speiereck ski area is located directly in St. Michael, but the Fanningberg with 30 km of pistes, the Katschberg-Aineck ski area with 70 km of downhill runs, and the winter sports paradise of Obertauern with a full 100 km of pistes are also not too far away. All ski areas can be reached directly from the JUFA Lungau hotel with the convenient ski shuttle. In addition to the piste, natural ice rinks and night toboggan runs await guests. In the evening, it’s off to the children’s indoor playroom or the sauna and relaxation area. The hotel also has good transport connections to the Tauern Autobahn A10, so that day trips to the nearby cultural city of Salzburg, for example, are also possible.
